Swatches: Sephora By OPI Winter 2009 Collection

January 11, 2010

I was able to dart in and out so that I could take pictures of Sephora By OPI’s awesome Winter polishes. I’m not really sure what to call this collection. Sephora is calling its holiday collection Sleigh of Hand but it includes three general catalog polishes and excludes Too Good For Him, which was released for the new year. Whatever the case may be, they are some pretty cool colors.

Untarnished Image. Silver glitter. Comparing this to Zoya’s Luna really made me realize how delicate most silver glitter polishes are. This one is no different – it makes me nails look like silver snowed down and stuck to my nails. It definitely has some coverage issues (pictured with three coats) so I think this was supposed to be more of a top coat than a stand alone color. I wish this one was a little more unique. How cool would it have been to have a silver / red or silver / blue glitter? Get some Hannukah spirit into the mix!

Worth My Weight. Gold metallic with silver glitter and holographic sequins. Oh, this is just fabulous. I love when nail polishes completely dispense with good taste and just throw everything in. The sparkle this one has unbelievable. The only place where this one might look understated would be Studio 54.

Absinthe Makes The Heart. Grayish black with forest green flake shimmer. This is probably the most popular color in the collection. I just can’t imagine a polish lover who wouldn’t flip out over this. I like that it’s in keeping with the green trend, but takes dark green shimmers in a very different direction. This is one sexy, sultry polish.

Too Good For Him. Blue, silver, and purple glitter straight out of Avatar. I have to admit, this one let me down. It’s so dynamic in the bottle, but the coverage just isn’t there. You can see that the middle parts of my nails are fairly slathered, but the tips are too bare to look attractive. I know that with some glitter polishes you have to layer, but glitter polishes also flake easier, so it’s a bit of a catch-22. Still a very pretty polish, though.

Out of the four, I think that Worth My Weight and Absinthe Makes The Heart are must-haves. Be sure to pounce on them quickly, as Sephora’s Spring collection is coming out soon and will probably push these from stores.
