Swatches: Color Club Wild At Heart Collection

January 6, 2010

The weather gods have not been kind to us here in the Miami Valley. It’s really frickin’ cold outside, the sky is a dreary gray, and there’s a layer of slippery snow on the ground that makes everyday tasks like getting the mail extremely difficult. But, fear not, I braved the elements earlier today in order to swatch Color Club’s excellent Wild At Heart collection and so I come bearing pictures. This really is an amazing collection. Out of all the polish collections I own, it’s definitely in the top 3. And, as I keep parroting about Color Club, it was very inexpensive. Amazing colors that don’t dent your wallet – it really does not get any better than that.

Love ‘Em Leave ‘Em. Beige holographic shimmer. Unfortunately, it blends into my skin, so it doesn’t look as cool as it could, but check out the serious shimmer packed into this one. When you look at this image up close, it’s amazing to see all the holographic shimmer particles in here. It’s kind of like looking at one of those NASA photos that shows an innumerable number of stars in the night sky. This has its own shimmer galaxy.

On The Wild Side. Black pearl. This one is absolutely gorgeous. However, its sheen makes it very easy for imperfections on the nail to show on the polish, ruining the effect. Make sure to use base coat and top coat whenever you use metallic polish. This one might even require you to double base coat. But it is so worth it.

Rule Breaker. Satiny jungle green. To borrow from the Rachel Zoe lexicon (I’m sorry): I die! I have a lot of bluish greens in my collection, but something about this is so compelling. It’s almost serpentine in nature, a rare jewel of the jungle who has decided to slink out and play.

Wild And Willing. Iridescent apricot. It just keeps getting better! This is so amazingly gorgeous in real life. Even the my photo managed to pick up the duochrome nature of this one, it still doesn’t capture how fab Wild and Willing really is. It just doesn’t stop – its colors are always flowing and sparkling depending on where the light it hitting it. It’s almost alive. Truly one of the most dynamic polishes I’ve ever seen.

Wild At Heart. Rock star purple with holographic shimmer. This is similar to Love ‘Em Leave ‘Em due to its serious shimmer quotient, but instead of sandy-beige, the base is a beautiful purple. It’s wonderfully rich and pigmented, with just the right amount of red to keep it from looking too regal. This is the kind of purple you wear to a rock concert, not a banquet.

With Abandon. Bitter chocolate with copper glitter. A wonderful end to a great collection. Brown polishes usually bore me, but this one has made me re-evalutate why I don’t like the color. WA reminds me of the last embers of a fire glowing in the dark. Coolly mysterious and a little dangerous.

Swatches: Color Club Dance To The Musique Collection

December 25, 2009

As noted over Twitter, I’ve been fooling around with my mom’s camera for the past two days, trying to figure out how to take up-close pictures without them being blurry. I think I’ve finally got it down (thanks, macro setting) so I can begin working on my huge pile of bottles to swatch while I’m down here. Sorry if the pictures are still a little shaky – I’m still getting the hang of this thing – but I think you can get a decent appreciation for what the colors look like from them.

Feel the Beat. Atomic metallic orange. This is such a great color to try out in Florida. It’s a breathtaking orange / red / gold duochrome so bright that it resembles flames. I really need to re-do my toe polish and I’m seriously considering FTB for the job.

Velvet Rope. (Not to be confused with the Orly color of the same name.) Peppy cherry with gold shimmer. I love the way this one looks against against my skin – it give a little flush of color to my super pale fingers. One of those crimson reds that everyone should have in their polish collection.

Slow Jam. Sparkly blackberry. The gorgeousness of this is really hard to capture on camera – it’s got a mahogany undertone and lots of gold shimmer which looks amazing on the nail. I wish my nails were longer so I could really show this one off – it just doesn’t look right on my little stumps.

Electronica. Electric purple / blue shimmer. This is seriously one of the coolest colors ever. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s so vivid it almost make my eyes hurt, like when you catch a glimpse of lightening or stare too long into the sun. If you love purples, this is a must have.

Groove Thang. Blackened purple / green duochrome. Okay, this pic really pisses me off, because it makes GT look like a plain black creme when it’s actually a complex color. Maybe I’ll have to do a post about misunderstood duochromes sometime, because this deserves better. Anyway, think of light reflecting on an oil spill and you’re a little closer to picturing this one.

After Hours. Charcoal shimmer. I really like this one – it’s moody but the shimmer lightens it up a considerable bit. I also like that it definitely looks gray and not like a weak black.

Overall, I think this collection is really fabulous, so if you have some money to buy polish after the holidays, I highly recommend spending it on this collection. There is one caveat, and that is that the polish is kind of thin, so definitely wear basecoat and apply 2-3 layers of it. I think Color Club does really amazing polishes (which are so inexpensive!) and deserves more recognition. Thank you for being awesome, CC.
