Cheap and Chic: Fall 2009/Winter 2010 Coat Trends

December 2, 2009

I absolutely love coats but unfortunately I am Floridian and we barely get a fall or winter season. Here we are in the first week of December and we have yet to have a cold front befitting the use of a fall or winter coat. But for all of you Fashion Devotee’s fortunate enough to live in a city where the seasons change here is a break down of this years fall and winter coat trends. And for my rescessionista’s there is a way to shop cheap and still be chic.

Houndstooth: Houndstooth is a classic fall and winter trend that seems to continue to stand the test of time and continues to return season after season. Alexander McQueen was quite inspired by the pattern so much so he created houndstooth pieces and adorned them with houndstooth accessories to create complete houndstooth looks. Military Inspired Coats: Military inspired pieces have been a reoccurring trend in fashion for the past few seasons. There is something quite authoritative yet sexy about the broad shoulders and brass buttons on these coats. Shop the Look Below all coats are under $200

Plaid: Plaid is a very big trend for the fall. DKNY had an entire vintage inspired fall collection consisting of plaid pieces. Donna Karen put her twist on plaid, giving her vintage Chanel inspired pieces a modern, trendy, and chic look. Naturally with plaid being such a big fall trend in general it made it’s way onto the catwalk in the form of a coat. Shop the Look below all coats are under $200.

Ruffled Coats: Ruffles are a girly, frilly yet sexy, and sophisticated trend that will always remain in fashion. Louis Vuitton accentuated the sexy and sophisticated with their play on the trench coat adorned with a layer of ruffles in the front. Shop the Look Below all coats are under $200.

High Collar Coats: This is a trend that works on almost any style of coat and any fabric. With this this style you can choose your favorite coat trend and get the style with a high collar. Shop the Look Below all coats are under $200.

A-Line/Swing Coats: The A-Line/Swing Coat trend is a very vintage inspired theme reminiscent of coats that fashion icons Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn wore. This is by far the most feminine and lady like of this seasons coat trends. Shop the Look Below all coats are under $200.
